Traveling from Moalboal to Bohol (or Bohol to Moalboal) is easier than it might look at first.

No, you don’t even need to go back to Cebu City!

In this guide, I’ll go over ALL your options for traveling between Moal Boal and Bohol.

I’ll cover how to do it the other way around (Bohol to Moalboal), and also give you updated ferry schedules.

Let’s get into it!

How to Get From Moalboal to Bohol via Oslob (Best Option)

Moalboal to Bohol via Oslob travel route

Here’s the best way to travel from Moalboal to Bohol:

  1. Bus to Bato | 1.5 hours
  2. Bus to Quartel Beach, Oslob | 40 minutes
  3. Ferry to Momo Beach, Panglao | 1.5 hours | Apekop Travel (book online)

This is the fastest and best way to do this route.

From Moal Boal town, ride a southbound bus to Bato. This should take roughly 1.5 – 2 hours.

Once you arrive, switch bus to one that’s going to Cebu City via Oslob. Tell the conductor to drop you in Quartel Beach, Oslob.

There are countless buses on this route, so finding one shouldn’t be at all difficult. The trip should take roughly 40 minutes to an hour.

Once you’re dropped, it’s a short 200m walk to the Quartel church. The ferry departs from behind the church.

The only ferry between Oslob and Panglao is run by Apekop Travel. It takes 1.5 – 2 hours depending on sea conditions.

Notes:

  • The ferries depart from Quartel Beach in Oslob, and Momo Beach in Panglao.
  • Apekop Travel is currently the only company that does this route.
  • The boat is quite small, so this is one of the only ferries in the Philippines that I’d say booking ahead is better (especially during peak season)
  • You can check Apekop Travel’s Facebook page for advisories

(Vice Versa) How to Get From Bohol to Moalboal via Oslob

The best way to travel from Bohol to Moalboal is via Oslob:

  1. Ferry from Momo Beach to Oslob | 1.5 hours | Apekop Travel (book online)
  2. Bus to Bato | 40 minutes
  3. Bus to Moalboal | 1.5 hours

You can see the ferry schedule from Bohol to Oslob above.

When you arrive, walk to the highway and ride a southbound bus to Bato.

Once in Bato, switch to a bus heading to Cebu City via Barili, and ask them to drop you in Moalboal! Again, dozens of buses run this route, so you shouldn’t have any problems waiting for one by the highway.

How to Get From Moalboal to Bohol via Cebu City (Most Ferries)

Moalboal to Bohol via Cebu City travel route

Getting from Moalboal to Bohol via Cebu City is simple. Here’s how:

  1. Bus to Cebu City | 2 – 3 hours
  2. Taxi to Pier 1 | 15 minutes
  3. Ferry to Tagbilaran | 2 hours | OceanJet (book online)

This is the most flexible way to travel from Moalboal to Bohol since there are a BUNCH of ferries from Cebu City to Bohol.

You can do this route at almost any time of the day.

First, head over to the Moal Boal bus station, and get on the bus to Cebu City. There’s no bus schedule, but one leaves roughly every 30 minutes. This trip takes 2 – 3 hours depending on traffic, and costs only php209.

Once you arrive at the South Bus Terminal, walk outside and hail a taxi to Pier 1. You can book tickets right outside the pier. Or, if you’ve already booked online, just head right in.

Now… there are countless boats from Cebu City to Bohol. But the one that most travelers ride is OceanJet’s fast craft. This is because it’s fast, and it docks in Tagbilaran (which is closest to the tourist zone of Bohol)

Notes:

  • OceanJet’s Cebu – Tagbilaran route is the most popular for travelers. However, there are other ports around Bohol, and there are also slow boats that you can take for cheaper.
  • Booking online is more convenient, but it has some fees and not all schedules are available online.
  • You can check OceanJet’s Facebook page for any travel and weather advisories!

(Vice Versa) How to Get from Bohol to Moalboal via Cebu City

Getting to Moalboal from Bohol via Cebu City is easy:

  1. Ferry from Tagbilaran to Cebu City | 2 hours | OceanJet (book online)
  2. Taxi to South Bus Terminal | 15 minutes
  3. Bus to Moalboal | 2 – 3 hours

If you’re in Panglao, a tricycle to Tagbilaran pier will cost you roughly php500. And as mentioned above, OceanJet’s Tagbilaran to Cebu City route is just one option, but it’s by far the most popular (See schedule above!).

There are a bunch of taxis waiting at the pier in Cebu, so hop in one and tell them to take you to South Bus Terminal.

There’s no official schedule for buses heading to Moalboal, but they leave roughly every 30 minutes. So just head right in the terminal, buy a ticket, and get on the bus!

How to Get From Moalboal to Bohol via Argao-Loon (Complicated)

Moalboal to Bohol via Argao - Loon travel route

Going from Moalboal to Bohol via Argao is slightly complicated, but it can be done!

  1. Bus to Carcar City | 1.5 hours
  2. Bus to Taloot Wharf, Argao | 40 minutes
  3. Ferry to Loon | 2 hours | Lite Ferries

This isn’t the most popular travel route because it’s inconvenient, and you’ll still have to get on a bus from Loon to Tagbilaran, and then ride a tricycle from Tagbilaran to Panglao (the main tourist zone). But some hardcore backpackers go for this route anyway.

Moalboal and Argao are adjacent to one another. However, there’s no direct public transportation between the two.

Instead, you’ll need to ride a bus heading back to Cebu City. Tell the conductor to drop you at the Carcar City Rotunda (roundabout). From there, hail a southbound bus and tell them to drop you at the Taloot Wharf.

The southbound buses will have “Bato via Oslob” signages. Some will even have “Argao” signages. Both pass the Taloot Wharf.

Once the bus drops you, it’s a short 350m walk to the port. There might also be some tricycles hanging around offering to take you there.

Notes:

  • Lite Ferries is the only company doing this route. This is the current schedule for their passenger boat Lite Ferries 22. They also have a cargo-only ship (LF28), so be careful when checking schedules since you won’t be able to ride that!
  • For advisories and more information, you can visit Lite Ferries’ Facebook Page.

(Vice Versa) How to Get from Bohol to Moalboal via Argao-Loon

To get to Moalboal from Bohol via Argao, you’ll need to:

  1. Bus or van from Tagbilaran to Loon | 40 minutes
  2. Ferry to Argao | 2 hours | Lite Ferries
  3. Bus to Carcar City | 40 minutes
  4. Bus to Moalboal | 1.5 hours

If you’re coming from Panglao, that’s another 30-40 minutes to get to Tagbilaran. You can ride a bus or a van to Loon from the Dao Terminal.

From there, hop on the Lite Ferries slow boat (see schedule above). Once you arrive in Argao, walk to the highway and hail a bus heading to Cebu City. Ask them to drop you in the Carcar City Rotunda (roundabout).

From there, look for a bus with a “Bato via Barili” signage. Hop on it and tell them to drop you in Moalboal.

How to Get From Moalboal to Bohol via Dumaguete (Last Option)

Moalboal to Bohol via Dumaguete travel route

The Moalboal – Dumaguete – Bohol route looks like this:

  1. Bus to Bato Port | 1.5 hours
  2. Ferry to Tampi | 30 minutes | Maayo Shipping
  3. Bus to Dumaguete Port | 40 minutes
  4. Ferry to Tagbilaran, Bohol | 2 hours | OceanJet (book online)

This is a fairly inconvenient route to take. But if you want to avoid going back to Cebu City or the complexities of the Argao route, then passing via Dumaguete makes sense.

The ferry from Bato to Tampi leaves roughly every 1.5 hours (schedule below). Alternatively, you can also take another bus or tricycle to the Liloan Port.

The ferries from Liloan dock in Sibulan, which is closer to Dumaguete City. Also, the Bato-Tampi and Liloan-Sibulan ferries alternate in schedule, with one leaving roughly every 30 minutes to an hour. So if you miss the Bato-Tampi one, you can easily go for the Liloan-Sibulan ferry.

From Tampi Port, take a bus and ask them to drop you at the Dumaguete Port. You can take a tricycle if you’re coming from Sibulan.

There’s only one ferry from Dumaguete to Tagbilaran. There’s an OceanJet ticketing office across the road from the port. Or you can also book online!

  • Maayo Shipping is the only company plying this route
  • You can check Maayo Shipping’s Facebook page for advisories. I recommend doing this, especially during holidays since they usually cancel some trips during these times.

Notes:

  • This is the only regular ferry between Tagbilaran and Dumaguete
  • There is only one trip per day. Unlike the Cebu – Bohol route, there are no hidden schedules.
  • Booking online is more convenient, but it is slightly more expensive. The OceanJet ticketing office in Dumaguete is across the road from the pier.

(Vice Versa) How to Get From Bohol to Moalboal via Dumaguete

To get from Bohol to Moalboal via Dumaguete, go this way:

  1. Ferry from Tagbilaran to Dumaguete | 2 hours | OceanJet (book online)
  2. Bus to Tampi Port | 40 minutes
  3. Ferry to Bato Port | 30 minutes | Maayo Shipping
  4. Bus to Moalboal | 1.5 hours

This route doesn’t make a lot of sense. But it can be useful if you can’t make the 6:30am ferry from Panglao to Oslob and don’t want to pass through Cebu City.

There’s only one ferry from Tagbilaran to Dumaguete (see schedule above). And there are countless ferries from Tampi to Bato.

You can also opt to take a tricycle or bus from Dumaguete Port to Sibulan, and ride the ferry to Liloan instead. If you choose to do this, you’ll need to take a bus or tricycle from Liloan to Bato before getting on the bus to Moalboal.
